Savannah Spotlight: Lynnetta Smith – Turning Combat Boots Into Career Opportunities

In this week’s Savannah Spotlight, hosts Renee LaSalle and Michelle Horne sit down with Lynnetta Smith, the powerhouse president of Combat Boots 2 the Boardroom. With two decades of federal service, experience as a military spouse, and a heart for helping others, Lynnetta’s mission is clear: make sure Veterans Day is every day.

Why Combat Boots 2 the Boardroom Matters

Our region is home to five military installations and nearly 22,000 active-duty service members—and that’s not counting the spouses and children who serve alongside them in their own way. Transitioning from military life to civilian careers can be challenging. The culture, language, and structure are different, and for many veterans and their families, it’s hard to know where to start.

That’s where Combat Boots 2 the Boardroom steps in.
From workforce development programs and veteran-only cohorts to small business partnerships and a new military spouse initiative launching next year, Lynnetta is building pathways for service members and their families to find stable, fulfilling careers.

A Mission Built From Experience

Lynnetta’s passion comes from personal experience. She watched her own husband—an accomplished veteran with a master’s degree—struggle after leaving the service. Through that journey, she learned firsthand the importance of mental health, community connection, and tailored career support.

Her organization’s causes include PTSD awareness and youth literacy through their Kits for Kids program. And with their “Veterans Day 365” initiative, they’re committed to making sure veterans are seen, valued, and supported every day of the year.

How You Can Help

Lynnetta is always looking for:

  • Industry partners (big and small) who value veterans and military spouses

  • Board members with a passion for service

  • Volunteers ready to make a difference

  • Veterans and spouses seeking career direction and community support
