Live Like Locals Charity Fun Walk
Working For A Purpose was founded in 2020 by Monica Hester. This amazing 501 C3 non profit organization was created to assist and support local single parent families. When Monica experienced single parenthood herself, she saw firsthand a need in our local community to address the many mothers and fathers that find themselves struggling daily with raising children on their own.
Today 1 in 5 children under the age of 18 — a total of about 15.7 million — are being raised without a father. According to the U.S. Census Bureau, out of about 10 million single parent families with children under the age of 18, almost 80 percent are being raised by single mothers. A third live in poverty.
Transitioning to a single parent household can disrupt a child’s routines, education, housing arrangements and family income. These changes can also intensify the incidence of parental conflict and stress. These changes can be very difficult — and even traumatic for some children.
Compared to kids in married parent households, children in single parent families are more likely to experience poor outcomes. Mounting evidence indicates that underlying factors — such as strong and stable relationships, parental mental health, socioeconomic status and access to resources — have a greater impact on child success than does family structure alone. Children thrive when they have safe, stable and nurturing environments and relationships and these conditions and connections can exist in any type of family.
Working with a Purpose mission is to operate as a non profit in our local community by giving aid, assistance, hope and love to our single families friends and neighbors with the mentality of “It takes a village”. A village to provide clothing, safety, shelter and a food foundation to which some may not have access.
Specifically Working with a Purpose helps provide:
- Financial Education- budgeting, saving, credit repair, and 1st time home buyers
- Financial Assistance-rent and utilities
- Employment- resume, job search, and how to interview.
- Community programs- back to school bash, lunch and learns.
Live Like Locals Savannah has partnered with Working with Purpose to do our part to bring awareness to this growing concern by creating the Walk around the Park with Working With a Purpose.
