Ernie Stanhope Car Show Fundriaser

Sponsored by

Ernie Stanhope was recently diagnosed with stage 4 cancer.

Ernie is car guy, a community supporter, a local, a son, a friend, a husband and a dad to some amazing kiddos. Just a few short months ago, he was diagnosed with cancer and his and his family’s lives were turned upside down. We’ve partnered with the Stanhope family to host a fundraiser, a car show.

Hear more about Ernie and his story from a dear friend.

A Letter from a Friend:

Friendship is often defined by shared moments, mutual understanding, and unwavering support. For over two decades, my friendship with Ernie has been all of that and so much more—a true brotherhood that began in the streets of Garden City, Georgia. Our bond was born from a shared love of cars, but it quickly grew into something far deeper.

Back then, Ernie was known for his iconic minitruck, a showstopper on the Savannah scene. With its eye-catching paint job and thunderous bass, his truck always commanded attention. Yet, beyond the roar of the speakers and the glint of the paint, Ernie had something even more impressive—a quiet strength and a genuine spirit that drew people in.

Communication between us started in a way that might seem unusual to some. Ernie, with his limited ability to communicate verbally, would use his trusty Sidekick cell phone to type out his thoughts, and I would respond in kind. Those simple text exchanges soon became the foundation of our friendship. But Ernie didn’t stop there. He taught me sign language, patiently guiding me through each gesture, each expression, until it became second nature. Before long, we were not just communicating—we were connecting. In our own playful way, we even fooled people into thinking we were both deaf, laughing at their reactions and embracing our shared sense of humor.

As the years passed, what began as a friendship turned into a brotherhood. We were inseparable, two friends who understood each other without words. Even as life led us down different paths—starting families, pursuing careers—we always found our way back to each other. Our bond never wavered.

But life has a way of presenting challenges we cannot control. Learning about this new path that Ernie is facing has weighed heavily on me. It’s a painful reality to see someone you care about—someone you consider family—facing a struggle you cannot fix. But even in the uncertainty, one thing remains true: our friendship, our brotherhood, will always stand strong. I will continue to be there for Ernie, just as he has always been there for me.

And now, I’m asking for your help. For those who know Ernie, those who have laughed with him, learned from him, or admired that unforgettable minitruck, now is the time to step up. Please consider getting involved and showing your support. There are many ways to make a difference—attend the scheduled car show on June 22, 2025 to show your love and support, or consider bringing dinner over once a month. If you have a few minutes, offer to mow the grass for Ernie, or send a refillable gift card that you can keep topped up, helping with essentials. Perhaps you have some time to spare—come by and help clean the house.

These small acts of kindness can make a world of difference. Let’s rally together for Ernie and his family, just as he has always been there for his friends. Together, we can ensure he feels the strength of the community he’s always been a part of.

Some friendships are measured in years, but ours is measured in memories, lessons, and an unbreakable bond. Let’s make sure Ernie knows he’s not facing this alone.
