This partnership means Savannah locals and visitors will have even more opportunities to indulge in LaTrelle’s beautifully crafted, fresh, and flavorful baked goods throughout the year.
A Sweet Beginning: The Story Behind Delectable Desserts Galore
LaTrelle Porter’s passion for baking started in her grandmother’s kitchen in Richmond Hill. Inspired by summers spent measuring ingredients and mixing batter, she fell in love with the craft early on. Her talent flourished while attending Savannah State College, where she baked for her business fraternity, Delta Sigma Pi.
To refine her skills, LaTrelle took a cake decorating course in 2000, mastering buttercream, fondant, and royal icing techniques. From her first wedding cake to her first character cake—a challenging Super Mario design—she discovered a love for creating custom treats that not only looked amazing but tasted incredible.
When the COVID-19 pandemic hit, she decided to take her passion to the next level. In 2020, she officially launched Delectable Desserts Galore LLC, becoming a licensed Cottage Home Bakery and offering made-to-order desserts ranging from cakesicles and brownies to bento cakes and dessert shooters.
Bringing Delectable Desserts to Live Like Locals Events
As Delectable Desserts Galore continues to grow, LaTrelle is excited to bring her delicious creations to every Live Like Locals event in 2025. This means attendees will get to enjoy her treats at Movie Nights, the Hispanic Heritage Festival, the Port Wentworth Harvest Market, and many more community gatherings throughout the year.
By partnering with Live Like Locals, LaTrelle is expanding her reach, bringing her signature desserts to new customers while celebrating Savannah’s vibrant local culture. Overcoming Challenges and Staying Inspired
Running a home-based bakery comes with its challenges, but LaTrelle’s determination and passion keep her moving forward. “Savannah has an abundance of home-based and brick-and-mortar businesses that offer baked goods. While each of our businesses and customer bases is unique, I do not feel that I am in competition with other local bakers,” she explains.
One of her biggest lessons in entrepreneurship has been knowing her worth. Some customers may not understand the cost of high-quality ingredients, time, and effort that go into making custom desserts. However, LaTrelle remains firm in pricing her products fairly while working within clients’ budgets when possible.
To keep her creativity alive, she draws inspiration from other talented bakers, continuously learning new techniques and trends. This dedication ensures that every dessert she creates is both unique and unforgettable.
Beyond Baking: A Commitment to Community
LaTrelle isn’t just a baker—she’s also a highly accomplished human resources professional and a passionate community leader. With a Ph.D. in Leadership and Organizational Change and multiple degrees in human resources and management, she has spent years helping others build careers and find success.
She serves on multiple boards, including Mary’s Place, and has been actively involved in Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Incorporated, and Top Ladies of Distinction, Incorporated. Her dedication to mentorship and volunteerism mirrors her approach to business: lifting others up while pursuing her own dreams.
Looking Ahead: Big Plans for the Future
With an exciting year ahead, LaTrelle is focusing on expanding Delectable Desserts Galore into a brick-and-mortar location within the next 3 to 5 years. She also plans to grow her corporate and wedding clientele while continuing to participate in pop-up shops, farmers markets, and community events.
As she prepares for a busy 2025 with Live Like Locals Savannah, she’s also working on launching a website to allow customers across Georgia to order her delicious treats online.
